Welcome to the website of US Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 20 of the US Coast Guard 1st District-SR, which is located in the Mid-Hudson Valley area of New York.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to assist the Coast Guard in their non-military, non-law enforcement duties. Division 20, through its Flotillas, is active in carrying out these many missions of the Auxiliary, especially those dealing with Public Education, Vessel Safety Checks, Boating Safety Patrols and Coast Guard Academy Recruitment.
Division 20 was commissioned by U. S. C. G. Director of Auxiliary Capt. J. S. Lipiscek and District Commodore Ed Nadleron, January 24th 1972. The Division was formed from the northern most Flotillas of Division 10 with Peekskill Flotilla 20-1, Newburgh Flotilla 20-2, Poughkeepsie Flotilla 20-3, 1Kingston Flotilla 20-4, and Croton Flotilla 20-5.
The Flotilla numbers were assigned in order of seniority with Peekskill being the oldest. 20-1 was the first to disband on 03/16/92 after 20 years of service. Flotilla 20-5 was chartered shortly before the
commissioning of Division 20. The first Division Captain, Robert Didio along with Kenneth Kaeli and Robert Borden, all of whom were from Flotilla 20-3 worked with boaters from the Warwick N. Y. area who had expressed interest in the Auxiliary to form Flotilla 20-6. That Flotilla was commissioned on 05/20/72 and was the first new Flotilla to be commissioned in Division 20. The second new Flotilla 20-7 was formed from a large group of boaters in the Newburgh and Balmville area. This
